Named after the shepherdess in Virgil's pastoral Eclogues. The Greek word amarysso means "to sparkle." In Victorian times, an "amaryllis" was a strong, confident, and beautiful woman.
The only way we'll really know is by talking to them more. If they're stuck, too, we should try to help them. But if it turns out they really did choose this on their own...better to know that, too.
[in case somehow latter down the line they do decide "never mind you're too annoying so we'll sacrifice you anyway."]
Are you someone who helps get people out of the Absolute?
I think I know a few people like that. [it's probably not the same, actually, but she thinks it could be.] You go where the work takes you and where people need you and the money can be found?
Yeah. There was this Grove, right? Full of druids. And a goblin camp nearby, and some tieflings who got displaced from their home. The Hells ate it, took it all in on itself.
[fidgety hands...]
So they were running from the goblins, and the druids wanted to kick the tieflings out, but me and my friends? We took out the goblins like nothing. Made it safe for the tieflings to keep traveling.
They hung out at our camp and it felt so fucking good to see them happy. Because of us. Because of something we did.
[this is so cute? like even the beating the shit out of goblins part, because while aerith doesn't always like to fight when it's unnecessary she does have enough experience fighting monsters to know sometimes you just have to. more than anything, it's very cute to see the way karlach's happy with doing something good to help someone else.]
I bet. It sounds like you guys did the right thing clearing out the goblins. Hopefully by now the tieflings have a new home, too. But that was only possible because of the extra help. [very curious how a home was eaten, but that's not the point and she can ask later.]
[this is the only place they differ because karlach actually loves a good fight but. yeah! yeah. she's achingly a hero under all of it. not because of glory or riches or anything, but because it's right. she wants to do the right thing.]
Sometimes the little guys just need a hand. [she says, with a little smile.] It's nice to know that good's still possible in the world.
[if i were a 7' tall woman i'd love a good fight too, damn. but she agrees wholeheartedly.]
Even when things like they're impossibly bad, there's always still a little bit of good somewhere. You just have to do what you can to find it. Maybe that's a little silly to some people, but I believe that.
I think I like the sound of that. [she sounds, like, grateful? sometimes you are just still a very lonely person who likes being able to surround yourself with other people. also the tail-swishing is a good indicator of karlach's mood and it just...kind of reminds her of another friend that she misses.]
Guess it'll be up to us to help remind people, too. Things sound bad now, but we have time to make it good.

[and as for the question - she laughs, but it's not meant to be mean.]
... Kind of? It's a long story. Let's say I've got people yanking my chain in every direction.

Or, that's what I want to do. It's what I used to do, before.

That's not a bad thing to want to do. Or to be doing in the first place. Bet a lot of people really appreciated the assist.

[she says this warmly, tail swaying back and forth.]
So - not silly! And if it is, we can just be silly together.
