[ oh no... the flames catch his eye because familiar, but the way she's just staring worries him - he makes his way over to her from where he's pulling his cloak over his head. ]
Um... sort of. [ he does reach up and tug a little at his cloak though, now. look at him! he's a knight now! he also has a sword strapped to his waist that he's resting one hand on. ]

anyway, he can peer! she slammed the box shut so hard that the lid bounced, which she has not realized in her totally subtle attempt. it means that he can see inside it! and what he sees is a heart.
that's it. a real, fleshy, fresh, slowly decaying heart. it's a little bigger than you might expect one to be.]
[by comparison, she's warm. she runs real, real hot - almost feverish. not enough to burn, but enough to notice, to be uncomfortable after a long exposure. she shifts, her tail anxiously wriggling, but - he says that, and she laughs.

[ tearing his gaze away from the heart, he looks down, and oh - yep, he is still sure holding his cloak, huh. he lets go, loosening his hand, and looks a little sheepish. ]
Heh... I don't know what that is, so... no, no, I don't think so. [ no, he's got a big baby heart under there. pure and azure blue. ] I... just lost something recently, that's all.

You got it. [she rubs at her temple. for no reason.] There's these things called Mind Flayers, where I'm from. They're slimy tentacle-faced guys that infect people with their spawn so those people turn, and they're all part of a hivemind. The Elder Brain's the one that directs all of them.
Kind of like... bees? Like bees. But with tentacles.
... That sounds awful. [ what a terrible monster... ] So... you're trying to slay it? I can't imagine the kind of damage something like that would do...
Yeah. Me, Astarion, Gale, and a couple other people too, we just picked each other up like strays. We're pretty much the only ones who can do it.
[a beat.]
I think I'm the only one that's really into doing it, though. The Gate's my home. If everybody there that's got a family and a living and all that, you know, if they get turned... I can't let that happen.
